An icing sugar stencil and pretty pastel box turn this simple, no-fail chocolate cake recipe into an elegant hostess gift.
Ingredients
1 egg
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk*
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup boiling water
1 tsp vanilla
Method
1. Preheat oven 350˚F.
2. In a large bowl, add ingredients in order listed. Using a hand mixer, blend until smooth.
3. Pour batter in a buttered 9″x9″ cake pan and bake for 30-35 mins.
* Sour milk can be substituted for buttermilk by mixing 1 Tbsp of vinegar with regular milk.
